    MARION — Ridgedale defended its championship. The Rockets went to Elgin on May 12 with the Northwest Central Conference softball title at stake, and they came away with a 10-1 victory over their Marion County rivals. "It means a lot, being our senior year and beating Elgin. That’s the one we want to beat every year," Ridgedale senior All-Ohioan Kenzie Delaney said. The NWCC for softball has been won by either Elgin or Ridgedale since 2019.

    Championship week is upon us in the Marion area. The conferences are holding their meets this week in track and field. Baseball and softball league races are being decided as is the race in the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference for boys tennis. Likewise, softball and boys tennis teams will begin postseason play this week with baseball and track and field following suit the next week. Last week's schedule wasn't as robust as weather rained out contests earlier in the week.
