City dealing with flooding now facing possibility of icy roads

eCINCINNATI (WXIX) - The city of Cincinnati, along with other communities along the Ohio River, that are facing a massive cleanup once the flooded Ohio River recedes now are facing the possibility of icy roads. “Unfortunately, because some of our communities are cut off from their normal response routes for emergency responders, we’re deploying certain resources around the city to make sure everybody’s covered,” said Cincinnati Assistant Fire Chief Matt Flagler.

UNION, Ky. (WXIX) - A nearly $200 million, 62-acre development in Northern Kentucky is a key part of one city’s growth. Union Mayor Larry Soloman says the work on the Promenade Development off of Route 42 is critical to keeping Union growing. ”Our plan is to hopefully get more higher-end restaurants for the city,” Mayor Soloman said. “What we try to do - we know the needs of our residents and we try to provide them with goods and services that meet those needs.

Cincinnati Development Fund’s Chief Strategy Officer Luke Blocher and Urban Sites CEO Greg Olson teamed up and have increased affordable housing together. “In Over-the-Rhine, we need a mix of market rate and a mix of affordability so we can have people who drive Metro buses and nurses aides who work and live in this community,” explained Olsen.

CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A lifelong Cincinnati resident is leaving behind $250 million with a portion of the money going to fund ALS research and care at the University of Cincinnati’s Gardner Neuroscience Institute. Hugh Hoffman, who died from natural causes in 2023 at the age of 91, was described as humble and unassuming by those who knew him. It was recently announced that a $13.5 million gift from Hoffman would be going to the UC ALS program.
