Now that I’ve had almost a full week to recover from the Olympic track action and COVID-19, I’ve been able to come up with my five biggest winners overachievers and five biggest losers underachiever from the Paris Olympics. The term winners and losers works best for the headline but the word “losers” is too harsh and unair — showing up to the Olympics and giving your best doesn’t mean you’re a loser.

The organizers of the 2024 BMW Berlin Marathon which will take place on September 29 released their elite fields today. For the first time since 2014, neither Eliud Kipchoge or Kenenisa Bekele will be in the men’s race where former half-marathon world record holder Kibiwott Kandie will hope to make a splash. The field will feature six sub-2:05 guys (double the amount from last year’s race) and 10 sub-2:06 guys.

In recent days, there has been a lot of discussion about US Olympic marathon runner Fiona O’Keeffe’s decision to try to run the Olympic marathon while injured and her subsequent DNF. O’Keeffe was shown hobbling well behind the field less than 20-seconds into the race and only made it a mile.

PARIS – It’s becoming a trend. Falls played a major role at the US Olympic Trials in the women’s 800 and in recent Diamond Leagues in Monaco and London in the men’s 1500. Now the epidemic has spread to the 5,000 meters as the two Olympic preliminaries on Wednesday morning featured a total of six men hitting the ground across three separate incidents.
