Green Party councillor Caroline Jackson has been elected to lead Lancaster City Council for the third time. Coun Jackson was elected as council leader on Monday night at a full council meeting attended by all councillors. She won the support of a majority of councillors. Labour's Jason Wood was the other nomination. Caroline Jackson's first tenure as city council leader was from 2021-23.

East Lancashire men who volunteered to fight fascism in the 1930s Spanish Civil War have been honoured in a new memorial in Burnley. Men from Pendle, Burnley, Rossendale and Hyndburn are featured in the memorial to the International Brigade near Burnley Library. It was unveiled at a ceremony by the Mayor of Burnley, Coun Shah Hussain, and Chris Keene of North East Lancashire Trades Union Council.

Special controls on dogs taken out onto Rossendale's parks, sports fields and other public spaces should be extended, councillors have been advised. And the maximum number of dogs any person can exercise could be lowered from five to four. Enforcement workers could also ben given powers to hand out on-the-spot fines to dog walkers who break the rules. But some dog walking businesses or groups have raised concerns about cutting the number of dogs allowed per person.
