The German government has awarded Airbus a contract to equip 23 A400M transport aircraft with Elbit Systems’ directed infrared countermeasures system (DIRCM) after parliament this week signed off on the spending plan. Germany is the largest customer for the A400M, with 53 aircraft on order and about five more to be delivered. The German air force, called the Luftwaffe, plans to equip the 23 aircraft it uses for tactical operations, including medical evacuations, Airbus said.
