Members of the Yorkshire Wolds Railway have been making the final preparations for their annual model railway show that steams in to Driffield on Saturday, March 22. Now in its eighth year, the event will be held in Driffield’s largest events space, the Rix Pavilion, at Driffield Showground, from 10am until 4pm. Business development director of the YWR, Katy Bowser, said: “This year the show is bigger than ever – so much so, we are occupying the members pavilion in addition to the Rix Pavilion.

Iconic steam locomotive Flying Scotsman will take to the tracks once again in 2025 as the nation celebrates the bicentenary of the modern railway. The legendary engine, owned by the National Railway Museum, will visit two heritage railways this spring, with more trips set to be announced later in the year. The announced dates also include an Easter visit to the National Railway Museum in York and a summer residence at sister museum, Locomotion, in County Durham.

The Severn Valley Railway’s Engine House at Highley is holding its annual Christmas Gift Fayre on October 26 and 27. Dozens of suppliers will offer a wide range of gifts and products on sale, including hand-crafted jewellery, stained glass, wooden crafts and candles. “Once again we are working with talented and enterprising local craftspeople,” said Nadia Attwell, the SVR’s assistant commercial manager.

For two weekends in September, the public has the opportunity to take a Grand Tour behind the scenes at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. The railway, which has hosted two versions of the cinema classic The Railway Children, will be throwing open its doors to passengers who buy day rover tickets.
