CHARLO — Some Lake County residents are being advised to not drink their water. Charlo residents recently received a letter about high levels of manganese in the water that were found during routine water testing. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards recommend no consumption over .3 milligrams but current levels in Charlo are nearly .16 milligrams. Charlo officials stress it's not an emergency. Manganese is an essential nutrient but too much is a health concern.

ST. IGNATIUS — Kenna Callahan of St. Ignatius is just like any young girl growing up on a ranch in Montana. Except a few times a year she competes to win a national title, and this year she is taking her hometown talent to a universal stage. “Six-year-old Kenna Callahan from St. Ignatius here to show the world donkey ranchers can do pageants too,” Kenna said. She spends her time along the Mission Mountains raising donkeys and riding horses, but she is about to trade her cowgirl hat for a crown.

But the name of the town didn't reference any of its natural landmarks — until now. MTN's Robyn Iron has the story of how the community is using history to change its future. HELENA — The 69th session of the Montana Legislature got underway on Monday, Jan. 6 in Helena. Over a dozen elected Indigenous lawmakers are now representing Montana and their tribal nations at the state level and that means keeping Native issues are at the forefront. "This is an exciting endeavor, they are laying a foundation, for future representation for Indigenous people, for us to build off of,” said CSKT tribal member Mariah Camel.
