HELENA — Up to this week, Gov. Greg Gianforte had signed more than 700 bills into law and vetoed almost 40 more – but Friday was his deadline to take action on the last major budget bills still unresolved from the Montana Legislature’s 2025 session. The biggest bill by far is House Bill 2, the state’s main appropriations bill, which lays out more than $16 billion in state spending for the next two years.

HELENA — President Donald Trump has again delayed implementation of a federal law that could ban the app TikTok – which likely means yet another delay in the court case challenging Montana’s TikTok ban. On Thursday, Trump officially announced that he would stop his administration from enforcing the federal law until at least Sept. 17. It’s the third time he’s delayed it since returning to office in January.

HELENA — Gov. Greg Gianforte has chosen a state lawmaker from Jefferson County as the next leader of the Montana Department of Commerce. Gianforte’s office announced Monday that he had appointed Rep. Marta Bertoglio, R-Clancy, as the department’s next director. “Marta has been a strong partner in the Legislature and is a driven leader, dedicated to making Montana the best place to do business,” Gianforte said in a statement.
