Another nationwide protest against President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk was held in Stockton this weekend near San Joaquin Delta College. With smiles, music and hand-painted signs, locals gathered at the intersection of Pacific and West Yokuts avenues to rally against recent federal policies they deem as harming immigrants and other Americans. The song “We are family” even rang out across the intersection at one point, while people waved signs and American flags at cars passing by.

Another national demonstration against actions by the Trump administration is coming to Stockton this weekend at San Joaquin Delta College. Organized by community member and Delta student Dawn Griep, the demonstration is aligned with the national Hands Off! movement, which saw earlier this month more than a thousand protests across the country in one day, including Stockton.

The tiny puppy snuggled in her owner’s arms, her crystal-clear blue eyes a stark contrast to her muddy paws and fur. The 8-week-old husky pup, had just received a distemper-parvovirus vaccine. The shot is considered a “core” vaccination to protect against canine distemper virus and canine parvovirus, two highly contagious and potentially lethal pathogens found in dogs. But neither the puppy nor her owner has regular access to veterinary care. That’s where Hungry Tailz Rescue comes into play.

Today marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year, and festivities in and around Stockton are already underway. Kicking things off, the District 56 event center in Elk Grove hosted a Lunar New Year Flower Market Fair on Saturday. Visitors were immersed in a sea of red — a traditional color in many Asian cultures symbolizing luck and prosperity. Stalls offered blooming flowers, festive decorations and traditional crafts, while live performances, including dancers and drummers, entertained the crowd.

The spirit of Thanksgiving was alive and well in Stockton on Saturday as the community prepared for the 26th annual Stuff the Bus food drive. Organized by the San Joaquin County Transit District (RTD), the three-day event is held every year the weekend before Thanksgiving, where the community is encouraged to donate non-perishable food items and turkeys, all of which are delivered to the Stockton/San Joaquin Emergency Food Bank to help local families in need during the holiday season.

The Uplift All Foundation’s Health Fair at Stockton Memorial Civic Auditorium on Saturday provided crucial health and social services to low-income families, the homeless population, and individuals in need throughout the Stockton area.
