Polyurethane (PU), a thermoset polymer, is the sixth most produced synthetic polymer, with an annual production exceeding 24 million tons. Flexible polyurethane foam (PUF) is commonly used in mattresses, furniture, and vehicles. In 2020, European PUF production reached 1.1 million tons from 109 plants in the EU and UK, growing at a rate of 5 % annually.
