The parade had to be moved to an earlier time because of severe weather, but that didn’t stop members of the community from coming out to enjoy the parade. UPDATE, 2/26/25 2:45 p.m.: Officials said they have identified Murkeith Charles as a person of interest in the shooting that took place near Opelousas Jr. High School this morning. When officials arrived on the scene, they said, they discovered a vehicle that had veered off the road and struck a stop sign. Inside the vehicle, officials found a man in the driver’s seat, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The man was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
