The Summerville Softball team made the short trip to Fort Dorchester April 16 and turned in a dominant performance. The Green Wave defeated its region-rival 22-1. Summerville out hit the Patriots 17 to 2 and committed no errors. Junior Hope Chase had the pitching win. Summerville jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Haylee Sexton had a homerun for the Wave, which hosts James Island Tuesday, April 22. Summerville notched a 3-0 win over South Florence April 14.

Ashley Ridge swept its tennis series with Summerville to boost its standing in its region. “These guys have been doing a really good job,” said Ashley Ridge coach Shaun Satterfield. “They hang in there no matter what happens. This is a game of momentum so you just have to take it as it comes and not give up.”The Swamp Foxes defeated the Green Wave 4-3 in a match that started at Ashley Ridge April 11 but was interrupted by rain.

Swamp Foxes sanctioned, avoid probation

The Ashley Ridge High School football program will be allowed to participate in the 2025 playoffs, but its head coach will not be able to participate at all for a year. According to a Dorchester School District Two (DD2) press release from April 9, the high school was sanctioned due to a “recruiting violation” committed by the program. The district conducted a review into the details that led to sanctions and made an appeal to the South Carolina High School League asking for sanction relief.

Summerville won its first baseball series of the season against a cross-town rival, besting Ashley Ridge in two out of three games. The home team was triumphant in all three games. The Green Wave won 2-1 at Green Wave Park on April 8 and 2-0 at home on April 11. Ashley Ridge won 4-3 in The Swamp on April 9. “We all knew going in this was an important series for both teams,” said Summerville coach Thane Maness.
Panthers sign with college athletic programs

There was a lot to celebrate at Pinewood Prep last week. Pinewood started the week by honoring eight athletes from four sports who have signed to play collegiately. By the end of the week, the Panthers Baseball team had wrapped up a region championship. During a signing day celebration in the school’s main gym April 7, four Pinewood Football players announced which college program they will join next school year.
