Board members and staff from the Green Lake Area Animal Shelter gathered last week Wednesday to honor shelter manager Janine Rubeck for her 20 years of service. Twelve people were on hand to present Rubeck with a plaque commemorating her two decades at the shelter. “On March 29, 2005, I walked in the front door as shelter manager for the first time,” Rubeck wrote in a Facebook message.

Destina “Dusty” Walker’s spirit lives on with the creation of an award in her honor, the Commitment to Green Lake Award, sponsored by the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Walker passed away Sunday, Dec. 29, leaving a long history of service and support of the Green Lake community.

How did the city of Ripon and surrounding communities, as well as Fond du Lac and Green Lake counties vote for statewide races/ballot question in last week Tuesday’s spring election? Three ballot items highlighted the election on the state level: A Wisconsin Supreme Court justice position, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction state superintendent job and a question on whether a constitutional amendment should be created requiring photo identification to vote.

Needless to say it’s disappointing that the referendum did not pass.”Mayor Ray Radis said that after a measure that would have enabled Green Lake to increase collections by $700,000 to meet the needs of the city’s operational budget was defeated during last week Tuesday’s spring election. This comes after a similar referendum was defeated last year by 26 votes, 171-145.

Three new faces soon will settle into their seats on the next Ripon School Board. This comes after four candidates vied for the three open seats in the spring election last week Tuesday. Earning the seats were Chris Gatzke (2,280 votes), Jessica Stollfuss (1,980) and Stefanie Meeker (1,904). Kelly Nielsen, the only incumbent in the race, came in fourth (1,709) and did not retain her seat. She was elected last year to complete the final year of a seat vacated by a former School Board member.
