SIOUX FALLS — The South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame will be inducting 23 sports legends on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025, at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The 2025 class includes perhaps the greatest kicker in NFL history, world record holders, champion coaches, women athlete pioneers, a pro cowboy and South Dakota’s most well-known sled dog racer. Tickets for the induction banquet will go on sale later this year.

Watertown High School's track and field athletes are going to have to wait another year to compete at home. On Thursday, Watertown School District Activities Director Craig Boyens announced that the 60th Watoma Relays track and field meet (scheduled for Friday, April 25) have been cancelled for a third-straight year. For the second-straight year, the culprit is ongoing work for the second phase of upgrading the athletic facility at Allen Mitchell Field.

Three Great Plains Lutheran athletes have joined the list of area high school seniors signing to compete in college. Panther seniors Hayden Karli and Micah Holien each have signed to compete in men's college track and field at the University of Sioux Falls. Kowynn Muhl has signed to play college football at Dakota State University in Madison. Listed below are the list of known area college signees/commits for the 2025-26 school year.

Four northeastern South Dakota high school boys tennis teams begin their seasons. Watertown, Aberdeen Central, Aberdeen Roncalli, and Milbank all have upcoming matches and tournaments scheduled. Several teams are returning key players while others are looking to fill spots left by graduating seniors. By the end of the week, the high school boys tennis season should be officially started for each of northeastern South Dakota's four teams.
