It’s easy to view public speakers as part of an intellectually gifted, fundamentally separate group, as they have better verbal poise and recovery time than the rest of us. But Thomas Jefferson High School announcer Ben Gluckman cares about his audience (“Voice of Magnanimous Man Behind the Mic, Ben Gluckman, matters in RVA,” Sept. 13) rather than using his skills to convince people who has the best sports team.

It’s a shame that Sen. Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth, derailed Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s plan to build the grandiose Glenn-dome in Northern Virginia. It was the latest Republican scheme to stimulate the economy by transferring taxpayer dollars to the pockets of billionaires. But if the governor’s vision is such a wonderful opportunity, then all is not lost. Isn’t Youngkin the fabled king of private equity, a masterful money-raiser with impressive persuasive ability?
