It’s a shame that Sen. Louise Lucas, D-Portsmouth, derailed Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s plan to build the grandiose Glenn-dome in Northern Virginia. It was the latest Republican scheme to stimulate the economy by transferring taxpayer dollars to the pockets of billionaires. But if the governor’s vision is such a wonderful opportunity, then all is not lost. Isn’t Youngkin the fabled king of private equity, a masterful money-raiser with impressive persuasive ability?

Andy Murray says it is unlikely he will keep playing tennis beyond the summer but the former world No 1 is hopeful of competing at the Olympics in Paris before he retires. Carlos Alcaraz has ended Novak Djokovic's reign at Wimbledon, beating the seven-time champion in a thrilling five-set final despite losing the opening set 6-1. The 20-year-old world No 1 won 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 to add a second grand-slam title to his US Open victory last year. Djokovic had been the champion here since 2018 - winning four titles on the bounce - and the last time he lost on Centre Court was all the way back in 2013, in the final against Andy Murray.
