    MARYLEBONE ROAD IN central London is a busy thoroughfare on any morning, but today a section of it was completely thronged, thanks to Kneecap’s ability to draw an audience. The crowd was noisy and numbered in several hundred – but confined as it was to the path and the area immediately outside Westminster Magistrates’ Court, from within it, it felt like more. There was some pushing, given the numbers and the tight space available.

    COURTROOM 1 IN WESTMINSTER Magistrates’ Court is the location for the appearance of Kneecap’s Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh in London this morning. The high-profile court date comes just less than a month after the rapper, known as Mo Chara, was charged by the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service. The charge is that Ó hAannaidh “displayed a flag in support of Hezbollah, a proscribed organisation” during a gig in the O2 Forum, Kentish Town last November.

    THE GOVERNMENT HAS confirmed that plans for schools to have access to lockable phone pouches have been replaced with plans for schools to provide whatever “phone storage solution works best for them”. The €9 million spend was among the most contentious measures announced in Budget 2025 last October. Earlier this year, tender documents were issued seeking the contract for the ‘Provision of Secure Mobile Phone Pouches for Students in Post Primary Schools’.

    JUSTICE MINISTER JIM O’Callaghan has said stressed that “securing our borders” is a government priority as he confirmed that 39 people were deported to Georgia on a charter flight last night. The minister has said that the deportation is classified as an “enforced removal” because the individuals had not complied with deportation orders. “Before a deportation order is made, the person is offered assistance to return home voluntarily, this is the preferred option.
