VICTORIA, Texas - Eight years ago, a hate crime in Victoria led to the destruction of the Victoria Islamic Center mosque. At 2:11 a.m. on January 28, 2017, the Victoria Fire Department responded to a fire at the mosque. The place of worship became fully engulfed in flames and was destroyed. In 2018, the man responsible was found guilty of a hate crime in the burning of the Victoria Islamic Center mosque, and sentenced to almost 25 years in prison.

VICTORIA, Tx- The Victoria Fire Department(VFD) responded to a major house fire on 108 Banbury Lane late Tuesday night. Crews worked to extinguish the fire spread which spread throughout the entire home. On scene flames could be seen surging in the garage. VFD was able to gain control of the fire, but the house appears to be a total loss.

Patti Welder Middle School parents and guardians are advised to use North Street coming from Ben Jordan Street for drop-off in front of the gym. Due to city barricades, drop off from Laurent Street is not possible. VICTORIA, Texas - After midnight police responded to the intersection of North and Brownson St. where a water main break was reported. East to west traffic on North Street was blocked off shortly after, as police waited for the water department to arrive. This road closure could impact traffic around Patti Welder Middle School. We have reached out to VISD to see how this affects the middle school and are awaiting comment. As of 3 a.m. the road remained closed to traffic.

CUERO, Texas - The Cuero Police Department is informing residents of a runaway child. 15-year old Xavier Porras was last seen around 11 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27th at his home. Xavier Porras is 5’4” and weighs 120 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black Nike jacket, shorts and white Crocs. CPD asks you to contact Officer Dylan Traver at (361)275-5734 if you see Xavier. They remind resident that harboring a runaway child is a class A misdemeanor punishable by confinement in jail and or a fine.

CALHOUN COUNTY, Texas - Lavaca Bay’s future remains in question as the proposed Matagorda Ship Channel improvements loom. The plans would widen and deepen the channel bringing concerns that mercury left behind in the channel could once again resurface and impact wildlife and the fishing industry in the surrounding areas. Lavaca Bay was once home to fishermen and oystermen; it is now plagued with the aftermath of Alcoa.

PORT LAVACA - Jhonathon Smith Jr., 20, was in Port Lavaca picking up his birthday gift. It was a motorcycle from his father. Days later Port Lavaca police tried to pull him over. After he didn't stop, Port Lavaca police decided to chase him. During the chase Smith crashed into another vehicle at an intersection, after what his father describes as police boxing him in. The vehicle hit ended up hitting another vehicle. The two drivers are okay but were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

VICROTIA, Texas - The Victoria Police department attempted to pull over a vehicle around 11:00 p.m. Thursday Night. The white, lifted F-150 truck then ran from police. The chase throughout Victoria ended on U.S. Highway 59's Frontage Rd. The only occupant, a Hispanic male was arrested and taken into custody. Police found narcotics in the mans vehicle after the stop. He was taken to the Victoria County Jail. The truck reached speeds of up to 105 m.p.h. during the chase.

Tuesday, September 17 is National Voter Registration DayVICTORIA, Texas - Several locations across Victoria will be hosting voter registration drives on Tuesday. Tuesday, September 17 is National Voter Registration Day. States across the country are holding a massive effort to get voters registered ahead of the General Election on November 5. Here in Victoria, the Victoria Elections Office is hosting several voter registration drives to ensure Victoria residents are ready to vote this November.
