    Cambridge won both the women's and men's contests in the Boat Race for the third year in succesion on Sunday (13 April). In the women's Boat Race, Cambridge cruised to an eighth consecutive victory after an early boat clash forced umpire Matthew Pinsent to stop the race on the River Thames. The four-time Olympic gold medallist could have disqualified Oxford after issuing several warnings, but opted to give Cambridge a third-of-a-length advantage at the restart.

    Fatima Ouhaddou and Iliass Aouani won marathon gold at the 2025 European Running Championships in Leuven, Belgium on Sunday (13 April). The first European Running Championships - including the marathon which is no longer part of the European Athletics Championships - started on Saturday with the half-marathons. Jimmy Gressier dominated for France, clocking 59:45 to win the men's race by 83 seconds.

    Lukas Märtens set a new world record for the men's 400m freestyle at the Swim Open Stockholm on Saturday (12 April 2025). The Paris 2024 Olympic champion clocked 3:39.96, becoming the first swimmer to break 3:40 for the distance. He eclipsed fellow German Paul Biedermann's previous mark from 2009 by 0.11 seconds. Biedermann's record was set wearing one of the 'super suits' which were banned at the start of 2010. He still holds the world record for the 200m freestyle.

    Kenya's Benard Biwott took a comfortable victory in the men's elite race at the 2025 Paris Marathon on Sunday (13 April) with Bedatu Hirpa of Ethiopia taking the women's event. Biwott, who won on his marathon debut in Frankfurt last October, moved clear from a lead group of nine runners with around 10km to go in the 42.195km contest. And the 22-year-old came home on his own in 2:05:25, 29 seconds inside his time from Frankfurt.
