The SouthCoast Wind project off Massachusetts could be delayed by two years, and the company is incurring $70 million in annual costs, according to court documents filed by developer Ocean Winds. SouthCoast is mentioned in a lawsuit by states against the Trump administration arguing that his “wind pause” in January was illegal. The project had been successful in solicitations by Massachusetts (securing offtake for 1,087MW) and Rhode Island (200MW) in September 2024.

Drive to back up wind with gas fails in TexasThree bills that targeted wind and solar have died in the Texas state government. The bills would have had to be debated in the state House of Representatives by 2 June, the end of the legislative session, but did not attract enough votes. They had passed the Senate. The bills would have devastated the wind sector, with ‘firming’ requirements of natural gas backup – even in some cases for renewables projects already operating.
