    The Huron-Superior Catholic District School Board will be implementing several recommendations to compensate for the loss of 70 educational assistants next school year. Education superintendent Franca Spadafora says until recently, funding from Indigenous Services Canada – through Jordan’s Principle – helped the school board staff 74 EAs, which in turn supported Indigenous and non-Indigenous students alike at its schools. However, she adds that funding has been reduced.

    Gore Bay has been undertaking a revitalization of its downtown, which includes the marina, and to that end, the town has implemented no fishing zones in the area. The Town of Gore Bay is the owner of most of the lands and related facilities on the Gore Bay waterfront (east of Water Street from the Red Roof Pavilion (Purvis Fish & Chips) to Fish Point Park), with officials adding all the net revenue from rentals fund town public services and community facilities.

    One person is dead following a fire in Blind River. On Sunday (June 15), around 1:00 a.m., the OPP and fire department responded to the Queen Street structure fire. The OPP says the identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing. Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
