A man was shot to death on a busy DeKalb County road early Wednesday. Officials said the man was driving a Ford F-150 truck on Flat Shoals Road near I-20 around 2 a.m. when he was shot, Channel 2 Action News reported. The victim, whose name has not been released, then crashed near the entrance of the Highlands of East Atlanta apartment complex. Investigators believe the man was shot as he was leaving the complex and that the gunfire came from one of the buildings, according to Channel 2.

Evacuations are underway in southwest Douglas County after a “hazardous materials” spill Friday morning. The situation is unfolding along theroughly one-mile rural stretch of Wilson Road between Ga. 5 and Tyree Road. The site is south of the Fairplay and McWhorter communities. Officials are asking residents within a half-mile radius of that area to “evacuate immediately for safety.”The impacted stretch of Wilson Road is largely rural with a few homes separated by large fields.

Some fast-moving, potentially severe storms are expected to march across Georgia throughout Friday. A cold front is charging down the southern Appalachians and into the state, pushing storms into the region that are expected to intensify as the cooler air clashes with moist, warmer air that is being pushed in by southwestern winds, the National Weather Service reports. Storms should arrive in the state’s northwest corner around 8 a.m. and reach metro Atlanta around noon.

A fuel spill is blocking all lanes of I-20 West in Atlanta just before the Downtown Connector at the top of Friday morning's commute. The situation started with a big rig crash just before 4 a.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Traffic is being diverted off the interstate and onto I-75/I-85 as crews work to clean up the spill. To avoid the detour, commuters can use Memorial Drive as an alternate, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.
