He beat the disease, but today he still faces the lasting effects of chemotherapy. With an upcoming surgery out of town, the Lerma family organized a fundraiser last weekend to help cover costs.

    EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- Coronado High School student Diana Calderon is shaping the art world. The senior, who is getting ready to graduate this summer, lives to create her next masterpiece. Calderon told ABC-7 she began art at only 7-years-old, illustrating cartoon characters and drawing pieces for her classmates. It was there her parents noticed her distinct talent. Diana has a younger brother and sister, but she is the only artist in her family.

    EL PASO, Texas (KVIA)-- The Knight Team Cheer team has plenty to celebrate. The Borderland cheer team was recently named triple-crown champions, meaning the team placed first place at three different national competitions. The team traveled to Colorado, Atlanta, Dallas and Florida as they competed against teams from across the country. Emily Canava, the cheerleading coach and all-star director at Knight Time Cheer, told ABC-7 that the team was nervous going into competitions.

On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. On March 13, 2020, the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in El Paso. On March 14, 2020, schools were ordered to close, and students began to learn remotely. On March 17, 2020, the city issued an emergency order that closed bars and limited capacity inside restaurants.
