    Hormel Foods saw a small increase in net sales during the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, when compared to the same quarter of the 2024 fiscal year. The diversified food company and parent company of Jennie-O Turkey Store on May 29 reported the results of the quarter, which ended on April 27. Hormel reported net sales of $2.899 billion for the most recent quarter, compared to the year-ago figure of $2.887 billion.

    Two poultry flocks in the European island nation of Malta have been struck by Newcastle disease, according to a new report from the (WOAH). The presence of Newcastle disease was confirmed in both flocks on May 21, WOAH stated. Both of the affected flocks were Zebbug. One of the flocks involved 5,054 birds, while the other involved 7,200 birds.

    A second commercial laying hen flock in Maricopa County, Arizona, has been affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced that the presence of the virus was confirmed in the flock on May 27. The flock included about 1,552,000 birds. This latest HPAI detection comes eight days after another Maricopa County layer flock was struck by HPAI, with that flock involving 2,258,100 hens.
