Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders submitted a waiver to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), announcing her plan to add rotisserie chicken to Arkansas’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Also in that waiver is a plan to remove soft drinks and candy from the list of products that would be covered under the SNAP program, commonly referred to as the food stamp program.

For the first time in more than a month, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported in a commercial poultry flock in Ohio. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) reported that the presence of HPAI was confirmed in a commercial laying hen flock in Darke County on April 14. The affected flock included 292,000 hens.

Uvesa Group has acquired a hatchery in Alfaro, Spain. The facility was previously managed by HG&P Layers Ibérica and was dedicated to the production of eggs for human consumption. Uvesa will transform the facilities to become a hatchery for broiler egg production. The hatchery currently has a capacity of 230,000 eggs per week. Fully equipped and ready to operate, this facility will enable the company to respond more efficiently to growing market demand.

If your grain facility staff or local fire department has gone through a training on how to rescue a person involved in a grain entrapment incident, the odds are pretty good that Bill Field, professor of agricultural and biological engineering at Purdue University, was somehow involved. Field and his team have done such trainings for about 15,000 rural fire departments in 12 states, he told attendees at PEAK in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on April 10.
