Tyson Foods plans to invest $23.5 million in an expansion and modernization of its plant in Robards, Kentucky, that will support retention of over 1,100 jobs. The planned project was announced by Kentucky Gov. Animal advocacy groups Animal Partisan and Humane Farming Association have filed a complaint against Pure Prairie Poultry (PPP) with the Buffalo County (Wisconsin) District Attorney, in hopes the former poultry integrator will be criminally charged for allegedly leaving thousands of chickens to starve. In a joint press release from the two organizations, they seek to have 30 criminal charges under Wisconsin statutes prohibiting depriving animals of food and abandoning them.

Malta has been declared free of Newcastle disease, according to a June 25 report from the (WOAH). WOAH earlier reported that the presence of the disease had been confirmed in two poultry flocks in Zebbug on May 21. Initially, it was reported that the two flocks respectively included 7,200 and 5,054 birds, but an updated report stated that the larger of the two flocks involved 20,600 birds.

Newcastle disease continues to be present in Poland, with the latest flock to be affected in a broiler flock in Palubice. According to a report from the (WOAH), 17,640 broilers in the flock were lost to the disease. The outbreak was confirmed on June 23, following testing in which both gene sequencing and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (rRT-PCR) were utilized. WOAH listed the source of the infection as unknown or inconclusive.
