The National Farmers’ Union Scotland (NFUS) has said the budget delivered by the Scottish government this week gives “some security” to the future of farming and crofting, “but only for the year ahead”. Initial examination of the budget announcement on Wednesday, December 4, suggests that around £680 million has been allocated to farming and crofting for 2025/2026, the NFUS said.

The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) Scotland will hold a rally outside the Scottish parliament in Edinburgh tomorrow (Thursday, November 28), to call for an increase in funding for farmers and crofters. Farmers, crofters, and rural stakeholders from across Scotland will gather outside Holyrood from 11:30a.m to urge the Scottish government to deliver a budget that secures the future of farming and crofting.

Nearly 200 countries have agreed to triple climate finance to developing countries to US$ 300 billion annually by 2035 at the 29th United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP29). After two weeks of negotiations in Baku, Azerbaijan, a deal was reached late last night (Saturday, November 23), which, however, has been met with criticism by developing countries and environmental organisations.

A platform to help farmers navigate the current network of agriculture-focused initiatives and programmes on climate action has been launched at the 29th United Nations (UN) Climate Change Conference (COP29). The new platform called the ‘Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers’ was launched by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN (FAO), in partnership with the Azerbaijan COP29 presidency.

The Global Dairy Trade (GDT) price index has increased by 1.9% today (Tuesday, November 19), and now stands at 1,239, which is up from 1,216 at the previous event. A total of 36,244 metric tonnes (mt) of products was sold at an average price of €3,875/mt. This compares to €3,668/mt during the previous event on November 5. The products offered for sale today were anhydrous milk fat, butter, cheddar, mozzarella, skim milk powder (SMP) and whole milk powder (WMP).
