    South Africa’s men’s sevens team beat Uruguay and Kenya on Sunday to finish ninth at the Hong Kong Sevens. South Africa had failed to make the quarter-finals of the World Rugby Sevens Series tournament after losing their last pool match on Saturday 17-7 to New Zealand. That was South Africa’s second loss in as many games after falling 26-7 to Australia in Pool B.

    South Africa’s Women’s Sevens moved up to the second place on the World Rugby HSBC Sevens Challenger log, despite a 17-0 defeat to Kenya in the final of the second tournament at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. South Africa, who finished third in the opening leg, are on 34 points, with the Kenyans, who defended their title from last weekend, at the top on 40 points. Argentina and Colombia are third and fourth respectively with 30 points.

    South Africa finished as runners-up at the HSBC SVNS Vancouver leg after going down 19-12 to Argentina in the final. The South African men had reached the final with a 12-10 victory over Fiji in the semi-finals after scoring the winning points in the final play of the match. South Africa have now finished fifth in Dubai, won in Cape Town, placed fourth in Perth and taken silver in Vancouver, which leave them six points shy of log leaders, Argentina.

    The South African Sevens men’s team won the HSBC SVNS Cape Town title for the first time in nine years when they defeated Olympic champions France by 26-14 in a pulsating final at the DHL Stadium on Sunday evening. It was the perfect ending to a tournament played in perfect conditions and with more than 75,000 people in attendance over two days in the Mother City, where the Blitzboks won all four their games.

The Paris 2024 bronze medallists beat Argentina 29-5 to reach the last four, while Fiji and Olympic champions France will face off in a repeat of last weekend’s Dubai final in their semi.
