Frankfort, IN – [April 15, 2025] – At the Board of Public Works and Safety meeting last night, Mayor Judy Sheets recommended the closure of the TPA Park Zoo. Following discussion, the Board of Public Works and Safety voted to approve Mayor Sheets’ recommendation. Over the years, the small zoo included animals such as Goats, Pigs, Donkey, Ducks and Peacocks. This decision comes after recent challenges, including evolving interpretations of USDA regulations and significant financial expenditures.

The teaching contract for former Frankfort High School Math Teacher Drew Akridge was cancelled effective immediately in a special Community Schools of Frankfort Board Meeting held at 6pm Monday evening April 14. Drew Akridge was arrested by Frankfort Police Department this afternoon.

Dr. Ron D. Wilson, DC, L.Ac, age 74, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025, at his residence. He was born August 4, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee to George Alexander “JR” and Florence Nellie (Baldwin) Wilson, Jr. He married Glenis Lavern Watson on December 20, 1969 and she survives. Ron was a graduate of Dowagiac High School in Michigan.

A Frankfort Student confided in a trusted teacher regarding an “inappropriate relationship” involving herself and a high school teacher. The student took this action after a cyber-awareness presentation was provided by the Frankfort Police Department on Friday, April 4th. Frankfort School Superintendent Dr. Matt Rhoda will recommend to the Board of School Trustees the cancellation of a teach contract Monday April 14. Here is Dr. Rhoda’s letter to parents and staff:
Wood Posts Replacing Metal Posts at Hardy Hills Solar Project

Hardy Hills Solar project is on line and producing electricity. A remaining item on the “to do list” was to replace metal posts with wooden posts. The corner posts will remain metal for structural reasons, but metal posts will soon be replaced by the more rustic wooden posts. This was the plan and agreement all along, but metal posts were erected around the solar panels by mistake. Camp Cullom has announced its 2025 Prairie Grass Observatory Schedule. Prairie Grass Observatory, one of the largest astronomical observatories in the State, will hold its first Starry Night Open House of the 2025 season Friday, April 25th starting at dusk. You will be able to see star clusters, meteorites, double stars, constellations and much more. Some objects visible through the powerful telescopes will be over 20 million light years distant.

The Frankfort Fire Department came out strong at Case Arena Friday evening against the Frankfort Police Department in the first few baskets, but after a good start there was no question the Frankfort Police quintet dominated the entire game…except for the very end. The game was a real barn burner decided by free throws and some key three point shots that propelled the Frankfort Fire Department to a lead at the very end of the game.
