    VILLAGE OF LIVERPOOL – The 39th iverpool Is The Place Summer Concert Series gets underway on Monday, June 9, with a performance by the Stan Colella Orchestra, a mainstay on the Central New York music scene. Stan passed away in 2002, but the orchestra plays on. Now under the leadership of Stan’s son, trumpeter Len Colella, the big band will perform tunes from its recent disc, “Just For Fun,” at 7 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Johnson Park.

    VILLAGE OF BALDWINSVILLE – The Timber Banks Golf Club & Marina located along the banks of the scenic Seneca River opens its summer concert series on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m., in its well-appointed Persimmons Restaurant, at 3536 Timber Banks Parkway in Baldwinsville. Admission is free. The 12-concert lineup showcases some of the finest local performers of jazz, blues, funk, R&B, Americana, Latin crossover and contemporary pop. The series is presented by CNY Jazz Central.

    VILLAGE OF LIVERPOOL – Dr. Mike Romano is praying for clear skies on Monday morning, May 26. The retired Liverpool dentist is chairman of the village’s Memorial Day Parade Committee which was formed by Mayor Stacy Finney after the 2024 event was canceled due to a lack of adequate police staffing. This year the Liverpool Police Department has hired six more full-time officers so the parade can proceed.

    Former County Legislator Judy Tassone of Liverpool died April 9 at age 73. In August 2020, she was hospitalized with a brain aneurysm, and she suffered further setbacks this year. She retired from the Legislature in December 2020. Named Judy Ann Hughes when she was born in Syracuse in 1952, Tassone is survived by two of her three sons and eight grandchildren. Prior to entering politics, Tassone enjoyed a lengthy career at Niagara Mohawk.

    VILLAGE OF LIVERPOOL – When the Frank Grosso Quartet concludes the “Syracuse Songwriters” concert series on Sunday, April 13 at Liverpool Public Library, they’ll perform music by several Central New York jazz composers. Among the tunes the quartet will play is one titled “Hidden Soul,” written by longtime Liverpool educator and saxophonist Joe Riposo. The free concert is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Liverpool Public Library, 310 Tulip St., in the village of Liverpool; lpl.org; 315-457-0310.
