We have huge work ahead to win back public trust and the right to have our ideas heard again.

Public services in Scotland are goosed. Nothing seems to work properly. Yes, we’re blessed with skilled, proud and dedicated people across our NHS, education sector, police force and other areas. But systemic problems have left these vital services in a defective state of disrepair and dysfunction. What really bugs me, and I think most people too, is the blinkered view of many members of the political class inside the Scottish Parliament.

Our party are the strongest champions of Scotland's place in the United Kingdom. That will never change. We are unionists to our very core. But, as I think everyone in our party agrees by now, we need to offer the public more than just a promise that we will fight for the future of the United Kingdom. Keeping our country together is vital - but we've got to bring more to the table than just that. We need to forge a new identity.
