Overall, spring can be fairly active when it comes to thunderstorm activity. Sometimes associated with these severe thunderstorms are what we call “anvil” clouds. Anvil clouds are named so because of the shape they take when they form. Rising air inside of a thunderstorm creates the towering cumulus look but the cumulus cloud can only rise so high and then it starts to run into the stratosphere.

Wednesday will mainly be sunny and hot for most of south central and eastern Nebraska. There is a storm chance, but that holds off until after dark. There is a Marginal to Slight Risk (level 1-2) for severe weather Wednesday evening. Mainly north of I-80. Below is what our StormCast weather model is showing for timing, duration, and location of the storms Wednesday evening. The risk for any tornadoes is low, but not zero. If one develops, it would likely be in the green shaded area below.

It’s been summer-like around here lately and that will continue into Tuesday. Highs will be in the upper 80s to around 90 degrees. The day will start a little above average, but it won’t take long to heat up. We’ll be into the 80s by noon. One more hot day is headed our way for Wednesday, but a cold front is going to push through giving us a rain chance as well as cooler air for Thursday.

We’ll start the day in the 50s and eventually get into the upper 70s by the afternoon. Not a bad day! Most of us will see lows early Thursday near 50 degrees, which is pretty close to normal. Highs in the afternoon, however, will be well above average. We should be in the lower 70s this time of year. We slowly but surely keep warming up into next week. There aren’t very many chances for rain in the 10 day, either.

Scattered showers and storms are possible on and off Thursday. Below is what our StormCast weather model is showing for storm potential, timing, location, and duration. After starting the day in the upper 50s, we won't warm up a whole lot. We'll try for the upper 60s by noon. We will eventually climb into the lower 70s by mid afternoon, which is a handful of degrees below average. After the good rain chance of Thursday, we have only a small chance for rain Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
