A few showers and storms will be possible on and off on Friday. Most of the day is looking dry. We’ll be below average for highs on Friday, but only by a few degrees. We should be near 80 this time of year. If we do see rain, it would be spotty at best and generally less than a quarter of an inch. We do need more rain, too. The latest Drought Monitor has improvements vs last week, but most of Nebraska is in the Moderate to Severe Drought range.

Rain showers will be possible on and off on Thursday. There may be a rumble of thunder or two, but the better chance for that is in SW Nebraska. Below is what our StormCast weather model is saying for precipitation chances. Notice it’s mainly rain in central and eastern Nebraska, but storms are trying to move into SW Nebraska. That area where the storms are a little stronger (see above), does have a level 1 “Marginal Risk” for severe storms Thursday.

There are many different types of weather scenarios that can cause a lot of damage to homes, cars and crops. Among these, during the warmer months, are lightning, hail, heavy rains and tornadoes. Naturally, the most damaging of these is usually the tornado. But there are times that another phenomenon is sometimes mistaken for the tornado and that’s something we call straight line winds.
