Evie MacDougall is in Grade 12 and won’t be around next year at Lake City Secondary School, but she still wants her fellow students to be able to enjoy ceramics. She and another student, Amina Bird, who is in Grade 11, are hoping to gather as much support as they can before a discussion begins around the future of the school’s ceramics classes. “I’m pretty passionate about it and I’m passionate about other students being able to do it,” said Evie.

The Martin Lake wildfire (C50627) remains out of control on June 19 but crews reportedly made good progress overnight. The fire size has been updated to an estimated 2,258 hectares as of the morning of June 19. The fire was discovered on June 15, is suspected to have been caused by lightning and is located about 3.5 km northwest of Tatla Lake, a small community in the Chilcotin. Tatla Lake is 222 km west along Highway 20 from Williams Lake.

Students in Michael Cebuliak's class have gotten some amazing opportunities thanks to multimedia equipment donated by a retired journalist. John Dell, who worked in the area for many years covering events, donated his equipment to Lake City Secondary School to document school and community events.

Residents of a building at 700 Tranquille Road on Kamloops' North Shore may have felt like they were under drone attack when they looked out their windows on June 17. But instead of an attack, they were actually getting a surprise cleaning. As a result of an apparent address mix up, drones were hosing the wrong building down on Tranquille. Some residents were at home when the washing of the building began in the afternoon.

Despite the impression the community may have from the online attention and heightened concerns in the city, firefighters have responded to a fairly average number of calls in the beginning of 2025. In fact, call numbers are down significantly from 2024, which saw a spike in fire calls earlier in the year, said Assistant Fire Chief Cory Boyd.
