AMMA, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A tractor trailer hauling gravel has overturned, bringing down power poles and lines. The crash happened a little after Noon Thursday in the 1800 block of Big Sandy Creek Rd. in the Amma area of Roane County. Emergency dispatchers say it is unclear if there are any injuries. CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - Two inmates have been found dead in less than a week at a West Virginia jail. The West Virginia Dept. of Homeland Security says 33-year old inmate Darrell Crowder was found dead during routine checks on June 12 at South Central Regional Jail in Charleston. On June 17, West Virginia DHS says 43-year old inmate Alana Saul was found unresponsive and died later that evening, also at South Central Regional Jail in Charleston.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A new report from national transportation research nonprofit group TRIP shows West Virginia is making slow but steady progress on bridge and road maintenance, but could soon face a funding shortfall. The report, released Tuesday, said 19 percent of West Virginia’s roughly 7,200 bridges are considered to be in poor or structurally deficient condition, meaning they have at least one major issue that needs to be addressed. That number is down from 20 percent in 2024.
