(Treynor) – Citing neighbors’ concerns and public safety, Pottawattamie County officials have denied a permit for a fireworks display this summer. Meeting in regular session this week, the Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 to deny a display fireworks permit for Conor Gillaspie at 27538 Dogwood Road, approximately five miles northwest of Treynor, for either July 3 or 4. The denial follows concerns raised by two neighbors about previous displays held at the location.

Updated Story: Thursday, April 17, 2025 3:03 p.m.(Clarinda) -- A boil order that was previously in effect for rural water customers in parts of Page and Taylor counties has been lifted. Southwest Regional Water District officials say samples of water from their system have passed testing requirements and water is now safe to consume.

(Glenwood) – Mills County is using its share of a national opioid settlement for a new app to better inform the public. Meeting in regular session this week, the Mills County Board of Supervisors approved spending money from the county’s opioid settlement funds to help pay for The Sheriff App. The money comes from an agreement that the Iowa Attorney General’s Office signed onto in 2022 that provides money from manufacturers to help abate the opioid crisis through prevention and treatment.

Updated Story: Wednesday, April 16, 2025 9:39 p.m.(St. Charles) – A Madison County teen has been found safe in Taylor County after being missing for several days. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office reports that law enforcement officials located 15-year-old Bo Brandt Redding—also known as Bo Hutton—around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday in Taylor County. Redding was initially reported missing by Madison County authorities on Saturday night. Authorities say Redding is being returned to his legal guardians.

(Glenwood) – Mills County officials are lending a helping hand to Fremont County for certain environmental health services. Meeting in regular session this week, the Mills County Board of Supervisors held a joint discussion with Fremont County Supervisor Clint Blackburn over the possibility of Mills County Environmental Specialist Matthew Scott providing services while Fremont County hires and trains a new person to fill the position. “We're without a sanitarian right now,” said Blackburn.
