SOUTH BRISTOL (WGME) – A very old tradition along the Midcoast will continue this weekend with an ice harvesting event in South Bristol. “We will have a working demonstration of ice harvesting the same way they did it 200 years ago on this same pond. We will be using the same tools, the public is invited to participate,” Thompson Ice House Preservation Corporation President Ken Lincoln said. The event gets going Saturday around 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. at the Thompson Ice House Museum.

LEWISTON (WGME) – A parking ban has been issued for Lewiston Thursday night. During the last snowstorm, many residents had trouble with the city parking ban. One-hundred-eighty-nine parking tickets were issued and 35 cars were towed. “When we issue a parking ban, we consider a number of factors, including the recent revel report, upcoming weather reports and of course, notifying the public in well enough time,” Lewiston Communications Director Angelynne Amores said.

PORTLAND (WGME) -- The weather has a lot to do with smelt fishing season, and depending on the year, it's not always a guarantee. “Twenty years ago, you could count on being on until the end of February, first of March, and for the last eight, ten years, around there, it's been lucky to make it to like the third week in February, sometimes even into the second,” Jim's Camps Owner Jim McPherson said.
