The pattern is clear: Harris won with voters who pay serious attention to political news, while Trump solidified much of his support from voters who don’t. But why does this matter? This is one of the factors that helps explain why 2022 looked different from 2024. If 2024 was about economic anxiety and high costs, why didn’t Democrats struggle more in 2022, when voters cited these issues as top concerns as well? Part of the answer lies in who turned out — and what they care about.

With seven months to go before the election, 41% of voters say they are more enthusiastic than normal about the election, 36% say they are as enthusiastic as normal, and 20% say they are less enthusiastic. Voters report similar degrees of favorability for both major-party candidates. Biden is viewed favorably by 44% of voters and unfavorably by 55% of voters; Trump is viewed favorably by 45% of voters and unfavorably by 54% of voters.

Contrary to patent protection that requires public disclosure of the invention, trade secrets require that the secret cannot be publicly divulged. In a business environment, it seems unrealistic to maintain secrecy without some disclosure to others, such as employees and suppliers, who are engaged in the activity associated with the trade secret.
