Oakland AthleticsThe A’s head into a hectic offseason that will see the team relocate to Sacramento for a few seasons. The consequences of that move may be the toughest part of the offseason for the A’s, as they are not losing much in terms of free agency outside of a few veteran pitchers. With the offensive side of the game returning in 2025, the A’s will instead shake things up with some younger talent. Jacob Wilson is mainly taking over the full-time shortstop role.

New York YankeesBefore Jose Trevino suffered a quad strain on July 12, New York had used an even playing time split at catcher, with Trevino and Austin Wells each starting 48 of New York’s first 96 games. Since Trevino landed on the IL, though, Wells has seized a significantly larger portion of the playing time, starting 19 of New York’s 23 games.

Atlanta BravesIt's been a rough week for the Atlanta Braves, who have lost their last five games in a row, including two of four against the last place Marlins, while also getting swept by the NL Central leading Milwaukee Brewers in Atlanta. That stretch has the Braves half a game out of a Wild Card spot entering play on Friday. This is a position the team has not been in since June of 2022. So, it should come as no surprise that the Braves are mixing things up a bit.

Detroit TigersSpencer Torkelson (1B, DET) is showing some positive signs at AAA-Toledo and could be on the verge of returning to the major league roster. Since July 23, the 24-year-old has slashed .320/.422/.722 with 5 HR and 20 RBI in 64 PA. Torkelson has a 62% ct% during that stretch and has been helped by a 38% h%, but he has also drawn 11 walks. He has shown better contact skills compared to his time in the majors, even this season when his .201 BA and .193 xBA were accompanied by a 73% ct%.

Los Angeles AngelsThe Angels have had injury after injury to the lineup with Mike Trout and Luis Rengifo, but the starting rotation may also see some turnover soon. Davis Daniel and Carson Fulmer have been the fourth and fifth options in the starting rotation lately, while Reid Detmers is in Triple-A and may be close to a return. Detmers has been throwing in Triple-A since June 7 and many are clamoring for his return to the major league squad.

Tampa Bay RaysTampa Bay seemingly positioned itself as sellers in the week leading up to the trade deadline and has traded away two lineup stalwarts, Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes, while acquiring Christopher Morel to fill one spot in its regular lineup. Tampa Bay’s lineup could undergo further exodus in the time between this writing and the trade deadline, as infielders Yandy Díaz, Brandon Lowe, and Amed Rosario all have been the subject of trade rumors.

This week the injury hits kept coming with news that starting pitcher Max Fried was headed to the injured list with neuritis followed immediately with news that star second baseman Ozzie Albies had fractured his wrist trying to tag out Michael Siani as he stole second base.

Minnesota TwinsThe team is in the middle of a highly-contested Wild Card race and are still within striking distance in the division. The bats have cooled a bit lately, with just 34 runs scored over the team's last 10 games. Minnesota is about to receive a boost, however, as a couple of lineup regulars are on the mend. Royce Lewis (3B, MIN) kicked off a rehab assignment on Tuesday and should be back at some point this weekend.

Los Angeles AngelsMike Trout may finally return to the Angels this season. He has been rehabbing his knee injury for a few months but has begun a rehab assignment this week. With Trout potentially returning next week, someone must be the odd man out. The outfield situation for the Angels comes down to Mickey Moniak, the primary centerfielder with Trout out, and Kevin Pillar. Moniak is only hitting .206 on the season with six home runs and six stolen bases.
