How one airline supported Pope Francis’ whirlwind trip to the U.S. a decade ago. In September 2015, American Airlines operated a special charter flight for Pope Francis during his first visit to the United States. The aircraft used, a Boeing 777-200ER with tail number N776AN, was designated “Shepherd One” for the duration of the papal tour and remains in service today.

Alaska will serve one fewer country by the end of this year. The carrier confirmed Monday that it will no longer operate scheduled flights to the Bahamas. In its latest schedule update, the Seattle-based airline axed a handful of routes, including flights between Washington Dulles and San Francisco along with Los Angeles.

282 passengers were on the flight. A Delta Airbus A330-300 suffered a reported engine fire on the ground in Orlando, Florida, on Monday. The aircraft – registered as N807NW – was operating flight 1213 from Atlanta when a fire was reported while the jet was taxiing to the gate. So far, no injuries have been reported among the 282 passengers, a Delta spokesperson said. 10 flight attendants and two pilots were also on board.

Boeing is facing accusations of deliberately obstructing the discovery process in a lawsuit over its 737 MAX and 787 aircraft. The plaintiffs, which include subsidiaries of Norwegian Air, have filed a motion to compel Boeing to produce documents and appoint a special discovery master, citing months of delays and evasive tactics by the manufacturer.

The carrier will end several cross-country routes. In its latest network shake-up, Alaska is cutting service on four routes. These moves include several changes to transcontinental services. On Aug. 20, the airline plans to end flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Washington Dulles. Both routes were relics of Virgin America, beginning in 2009. Alaska acquired the airline in 2016.
