Erika Denise Frisby, 24, was charged May 6 with second degree murder, nearly three years after a body was discovered in Candler. Using fingerprints, the discovered body was identified as Jeruan Spencer, 22, of Asheville. He was a rapper, a devoted father and a lovable kid, according to his mother. Javorie Ammon Thompson, 25, of Durham, remains in jail under a second-degree murder charge since his arrest six days after the Spencer was found dead. He's demanding a speedy trial.

ASHEVILLE - Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church has temporarily halted rental and utility bill assistance for a third time due to lack of funds. Since Tropical Storm Helene, the North Asheville church has distributed more than $5 million in rent and utility bill support for over 2,500 storm survivors, according to a May 8 press release. The church has also distributed supplies to thousands of WNC residents.

After two fishermen found a body "wrapped in debris and mud" along the French Broad River May 4, Woodfin police confirmed the person's death is not related to Tropical Storm Helene. Working closely with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Woodfin Police Department detectives identified the person as Garren Keith Gentry, 42, of Madison County, the department said in a Facebook post May 7.

Two years after a Brevard man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep, he pleaded guilty without admitting guilt May 5 – just before the case was set for trial in Transylvania County Superior Court, records show. Antonio Lajuan Lucas, 29, submitted what is known as a "guilty Alford" plea May 5 to second-degree forcible sexual offense and three other prior charges, court records show.

ASHEVILLE - Two co-defendants face a felony charge after law enforcement say they kidnapped a juvenile on May 4, records show. Nancy Grace Justice, 28, of East Flat Rock, and Kobee Nathaniel Wynn, 27, of Brevard, were arrested May 4 by the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and charged with first-degree kidnapping. Their arrest warrants claim they kidnapped a juvenile, who was at least 16 years old at the time.
