    HOUSTON, Texas -- Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen and Indonesia's Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) plan to launch a liquefied natural gas transport business. The partners will transport LNG from the Tangguh project being operated in Indonesia by British energy major BP with partners including Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp., CEO Yoki Firnandi said. Their LNG carriers will be co-owned under a joint venture to be created as early as this year.

    HOUSTON, Texas -- British oil major Shell is increasing its footprint in Canada and Mexico as it looks to export liquefied natural gas to Asia through facilities in those countries. Construction of Shell's LNG facility in Kitmat, British Columbia, Canada, is 95% complete and is ready to start shipping cargoes by mid-2025, Zoe Yujnovich, who leads the company's natural gas and upstream division, told Nikkei Asia.

    HOUSTON -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Chevron are preparing to make hydrogen in the U.S. using renewable energy, with commercial power generation using the fuel scheduled to start in mid-2025. ACES Delta, a joint venture involving the two companies, will produce and store the gas at facilities in the state of Utah. Chevron is the largest shareholder, with Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and a major Canadian pension fund among the other investors.

    HOUSTON -- Texas looks to work with U.S. partners including Japan, South Korea and Taiwan in semiconductors as the country races against China in the technology, Gov. Greg Abbott told Nikkei. "It is essential that the leading countries of the world partner together to achieve the future of semiconductors," he said. "And there are allies like Japan that work with us on that while we are racing against adversaries like China."
