HOUSTON, Texas -- Japanese shipping company Nippon Yusen and Indonesia's Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) plan to launch a liquefied natural gas transport business. The partners will transport LNG from the Tangguh project being operated in Indonesia by British energy major BP with partners including Japanese trading house Mitsubishi Corp., CEO Yoki Firnandi said. Their LNG carriers will be co-owned under a joint venture to be created as early as this year.
Shell seeks to supply Asia LNG market via Canada and Mexico

HOUSTON, Texas -- British oil major Shell is increasing its footprint in Canada and Mexico as it looks to export liquefied natural gas to Asia through facilities in those countries. Construction of Shell's LNG facility in Kitmat, British Columbia, Canada, is 95% complete and is ready to start shipping cargoes by mid-2025, Zoe Yujnovich, who leads the company's natural gas and upstream division, told Nikkei Asia.
Mitsubishi Heavy, Chevron eye U.S. green hydrogen launch in 2025

HOUSTON -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Chevron are preparing to make hydrogen in the U.S. using renewable energy, with commercial power generation using the fuel scheduled to start in mid-2025. ACES Delta, a joint venture involving the two companies, will produce and store the gas at facilities in the state of Utah. Chevron is the largest shareholder, with Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and a major Canadian pension fund among the other investors.
Texas governor pursues Japan, Taiwan, South Korea chip investments

HOUSTON, Texas/TOKYO -- Mitsui & Co. will participate in a $7 billion liquefied natural gas project in the United Arab Emirates, together with Abu Dhabi National Oil Co., Nikkei has learned. The project is located in Ruwais, in the western part of the UAE, and is expected to start operating in the late 2020s to around 2030, producing about 10 million tonnes of gas annually, equivalent of 15% of Japan's yearly demand.

HOUSTON, Texas -- Japanese trading houses Mitsui & Co. and Mitsubishi Corp. will work with U.S.-based Sempra Infrastructure to sell liquefied natural gas made via a process that generates up to 90% less carbon dioxide, Nikkei has learned. The partnership, which will also include other companies, looks to begin production around 2029 at a major LNG facility in Louisiana. The plant will produce 6.75 million tonnes of LNG annually via this process, equivalent to around 10% of Japan's annual demand.
U.S. coal exports take hit after Baltimore bridge collapse: EIA

HOUSTON, Texas -- American exports of coal will contract sharply following the recent bridge collapse in the Eastern Seaboard city of Baltimore, according to latest official outlook. April's coal exports will be down 33% from the previous forecast in volume terms, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said Tuesday. The EIA downgraded May's forecast by 20%.
