PEOPLEJonathan Shar has been named CEO of Barnes & Noble Education by the company’s board of directors. He succeeds Michael P. Huseby, whose resignation from the position went into effect on June 11th. The National Book Foundation, has elected three new board members, bringing the board total to 23 members: Jonathan Karp, president and CEO of Simon & Schuster, Peggy Koenig, chair emeritus, Abry Partners; and Jahm Najafi, founder and CEO, The Najafi Companies.

As of late, everyone is talking about Authors Equity, a seemingly new model for writers to bring their work to market. For the finer details, read this. And possibly, this also. In a nutshell, this new outfit looks to publish authors with no advance on royalties, but larger profit sharing on the back end as books actually sell. Per the New York Times, this new start-up is promising authors the “lions share” of the profits. And this from the Wall Street Journal.
