    November Class SpotlightsThe University of Michigan offers 3,000 courses across all colleges, making it impossible for students to know every class they can take while on campus. For November, which is Native American Heritage Month, The Michigan Daily’s Academics beat chose to spotlight four classes centered around Native American studies.     Bethany Hughes, assistant professor of Native American studies and member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, guides students through Indigenous history in the United States in NATIVEAM 217: Introduction to Native American Studies. The course explores topics including relationships among tribal nations and the University of Michigan’s with Indigenous groups. The three-credit humanities course typically enrolls about 35 students and is currently only offered during the fall semester.

    Rackham student Bethany Emery, a member of the Student Caregiver Advisory Council, attends the University of Michigan while parenting her 3 and 1-year-old sons. Emery wrote in an email to The Michigan Daily that while the University has provided some support to her as a parent, she believes it can do more. “While I think the University provides a decent level of support for student parents and caregivers, there are areas that could be improved,” Emery wrote.

    The University of Michigan Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia opened its exhibition “Threads of Tradition: The Art of Ukrainian Vyshyvanka,” Sept. 5. The exhibit features five different types of Ukrainian embroidery, or vyshyvanka, loaned from private collections and the Ukrainian American Archives and Museum in Hamtramck, a co-sponsor of the exhibit.

    Applicants for fall 2025 and onward will have the option to select the Ross School of Business as a on the Common Application, the school’s admissions team announced over the summer. This differs from previous years, where first-year Business School applicants had to apply to another University of Michigan college or school and select the Business School through preferred admissions.
