When winter break ended, Drake University senior Savannah Ming didn’t want to leave her parents. And she definitely didn’t want to leave her dog. “I enjoyed being home with my family [during winter break],” Ming said. But she needed to return to Drake. Ming’s last-first meet with the Drake Track and Field team was on Jan. 17 and would be followed by weekly competitions until her graduation day.

Everything went just according to plan for Syracuse as they picked up a 101-73 dominant victory. “We shared the ball,” Syracuse men’s coach Adrian Autry said.

Sadie Jones Syracuse Volleyball welcomed the Florida State Seminoles to the Women’s building this Sunday. FSU’s relentless scoring was suffocating for the Orange as they lost the match in straight sets. It’s safe to say that Syracuse Volleyball has been struggling recently after their strong start, going 12-0 in non-conference play.

Syracuse Women’s volleyball got shut out on Friday against the Miami Hurricanes in straight sets. Miami controlled the attack and had the Orange on their heels from the opening serve. After a cross-country trip to California, where they matched up with Stanford and Cal, the Orange opened a four-game home stand. Miami got out to a quick lead in the first set, jumping out in front 11-5. Ava Carney had two kills in the first five points of the match to get the momentum rolling early for the visitors.

On Sept. 26, Hope Bibens remembered why she loves Drake women’s basketball. The Director of University Archives was at Hoops Fest in downtown Des Moines. She watched as her four-year-old daughter Hattie ran around, practiced her basketball skills and interacted with Drake players. “They’re in the community. They’re giving back to the community,” Bibens said.

The top-ranked Panthers swept Orange in straight sets in front of packed gym on Sunday. Sadie Jones Syracuse fans came out in force for the team’s matchup against top ranked Pittsburgh on Sunday. Despite the big crowd, the undefeated Panthers defeated the Orange in straight sets 3-0. “Thankful for them (the fans) to be here, but I wish they would show up every weekend or every other weekend. Not just because Pitt is in town,” head coach Bakeer Ganesharatnam said.

The executive board of the Coalition of Black Students has decided to not reschedule this year’s #PaintItBlack signing, which typically occurs in the spring, and focus on the school year at hand. Last spring semester, poor weather canceled the fifth anniversary of the tradition. The signing of the #PaintItBlack circle on Painted Street is an annual tradition. It gives participants the chance to vow allyship to students of color, according to CBS president Ty Walls.

Sophomore forward Moo Galbus was stretchered off the field after a hard tackle that swept her off the ground into a hard landing. After a 30-minute pause of play, fans at SU Soccer Stadium watched quietly as the ambulance crew delicately handled Galbus.
