    Mumbai: Nine people, including women and children, were rescued on Wednesday after a fire broke out in six shops located in Byculla West. No casualty or injury was reported, but goods stored in 5,000-6,000 sq ft area were gutted. According to the fire brigade, the level-2 blaze erupted in a ground plus one-floor structure housing six shops opposite Saifi Manzil, near Hyat medical, Sakhali street number 3. Some parts of these shops were damaged due to the ensuing explosion of two LPG cylinders.

    In response to the ongoing strike by wet lease bus drivers, BEST undertook proactive measures to ensure smooth operations on Friday. BEST called upon previously declared excess bus drivers, deploying them to drive the wet lease buses affected by the strike. About 360 wet lease buses were able to operate on Friday. Moreover, to compensate for the canceled services, BEST requested support from the Maharashtra State Transport Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC).

    Ever since the monsoon commenced, Mumbai has been witnessing massive traffic snarls. Even a drizzle is enough to disrupt the city's vehicular movement. On Wednesday again, motorists had a tough time reaching their destinations as heavy rains lashed the city. “It took me three hours to drive down from Malad to Churchgate. It was simply hellish,” said commuter Pratik Shah. Potholes and absence of traffic cops at most places added insult to injury.
