A DAILY weight loss pill that works like Ozempic has succeeded in a major clinical trial for the first time. Patients lost an average of a stone and two pounds (7.3kg) each over 10 months. Unhealthy blood sugar readings also dropped and stayed low, indicating it treats type 2 diabetes. The results make the tablet orforglipron the most advanced drug of its kind and paves the way for NHS use in the future.

A DAILY weight loss pill that works like Ozempic has passed a full clinical trial for the first time. Orforglipron is made by Lilly which manufactures the ‘King Kong’ of fat jabs, Mounjaro. A trial has found diabetic patients taking it without dieting lost an average of eight per cent of their body weight in 10 months versus 1.6 per cent without the pill. This was equal to 16lbs (7.3kg) – or just over a stone each.

ROBOTIC surgery is to be rolled out on the NHS after its spending watchdog said it is better for patients. The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has approved the use of 11 surgical machines. They can perform operations including hernia repairs, organ removals, hip and knee replacements, and cancer treatment. Surgeons control tiny scalpels and other tools on robotic arms that enter the body through keyhole cuts and are far more precise than human hands.

LAB-grown chicken nuggets may soon be dished up after a scientific breakthrough. Researchers made a 10g piece of poultry from a handful of chicken cells with state-of-the-art tech. Realistic meat is hard to grow without blood vessels, so they were replicated using artificial fibres. A bioreactor machine then pumped nutrients and oxygen around the cells. The result was slightly smaller than a 15-20g standard chicken nugget, but apparently with a similar taste and texture.
