Kevin was born in the 1960s. He grew up in a small town and attended church, Sunday school, and youth group. At college, life got busy, and Kevin drifted away from his faith. He experimented with the forbidden fruits of drinking, dating, and drugs. But deep down, these pleasures failed to satisfy. Worse, Kevin had pangs of guilt that he was doing the wrong thing. One day on campus, a stranger presented Kevin with an evangelistic tract.

By: Sam Chan My friend has to catch a plane for work. And it’s a drag. Get to the airport. Go through security. Sit in a cramped seat next to a stranger. And do it all again at the other end. It’s worse than commuting by bus. But hang on! What are we saying? For thousands of years humankind has been trying to fly. But now that we can do it, we’re wishing we don’t have to do it? That means one day when we travel by laser beam, or fly to Mars, or cure the common cold, we’ll still be underwhelmed by it.

I’m a firstborn Asian son. I was always a high achiever! In primary school, I was the annoying kid who asked the teacher for more work. In high school, I would get 99 per cent in an exam, and fixate on the one mark that was missing. While my friends were busy partying, I was busy studying. I wanted to get into medicine, and I achieved that, in the top 1 per cent of the state.
