The Bangor Rams football team got its first win of the season on Friday, defeating Lawrence in a back-and-forth battle on the road, 33-24. The defending B North champion Bulldogs couldn’t slow down Bangor’s rushing attack, which compiled north of 300 yards and five touchdowns. Elsewhere, Hermon and Nokomis’ Class C North matchup went into double overtime, and Stearns/Schenck earned a statement win over rival Orono. By Sam Canfield, Bangor Daily News StaffOn paper, a Sept. 24 girls soccer game between Lawrence and Nokomis was rather nondescript. The game in Newport did not have major playoff implications, and neither Cindy Blodgett nor Cooper Flagg will be in attendance. The two teams are members of the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference, but are located 30 miles apart and are far from being considered archrivals — for now.

This past spring, the Husson University softball team won 30 straight games, won its sixth consecutive North Atlantic Conference title, and was ranked as high as 20th in the Division III national rankings — all with an interim head coach. Veteran pitching coach Rick Roberts took the reins last offseason and delivered, leading the Eagles to a program-best 37-6 record, an astonishing 1.71 team ERA and an NCAA regional final appearance at home on O’Keefe Field.

This past March, the University of Maine Athletics Department announced that beer and alcoholic seltzers would be available for purchase at Alfond Arena during the 2024-25 hockey season. At a private event for season ticket holders on Thursday night, alcoholic beverages were sold for the first time. The eight beverages available for purchase range from $10 to $14, and include five drinks branded under the Orono Brewing Company.
