OLD ORCHARD BEACH (WGME) - New numbers show fewer Canadians are spending the summer in Vacationland. According to data released by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 85,000 fewer Canadians crossed the border into Maine in May compared to last year. Blake Laughlin, owner of Corner's Surf Company in Old Orchard Beach, says it is noticeable. "It's definitely one of the slower starts I've seen in quite a few years," Laughlin said.

LEWISTON (WGME) - Lewiston's hockey team is looking for a new home. The Maine Nordiques do not have a lease to play at the Colisée next season. The building has been up for sale since last June. Lewiston Director of Economic and Community Development Nate Libby is optimistic a deal will be reached soon. "We're optimistic that a deal can be made. The Colisée is an important asset to the city of Lewiston, and the city is optimistic that operations can continue there," Libby said.

AUGUSTA (WGME) -- Free community college could be on the way out in Maine. It is a casualty in a state budget approved by the Appropriations Committee. According to the Maine Community College System, high schoolers in the class of 2025 would be the last to qualify for free community college. Those students would have up to two years to cash in on a free education. Future classes would not have the same luxury.

BRUNSWICK (WGME) - The Brunswick Town Planning Board is considering a proposal to build 122 townhouses on Woodside Road. Meghan Roberts lives on Arrowhead Drive in Brunswick, which runs parallel to Woodside Road. Ever since the property owned timber harvested the area last year, she expected a development to follow suit. “I always knew this was going to happen I think, that they were gonna put houses there. I didn’t think they were going to build 122 units," Roberts said.

CUMBERLAND (WGME) - A scheduling conflict is pinning two Maine fairs against each other. The Cumberland Fair starts and finishes during the third week of September. It is their longtime tradition. The Fryeburg Fair typically follows the same timeline, starting on a Sunday and ending on a Saturday. This year, the Fryeburg Fair opens one day early, on Saturday, September 27. It is the same as Cumberland's last day, also their busiest day historically.
