Columbus softball trio plays in Central Community College All-Star Game

Columbus High's Bella Larsen, Lexus Hill and Callen Heule took the field for the final time as high schoolers in Wednesday's Central Community College All-Star Game. Larsen and Hill played on the Green Team and squared off against Heule and the Silver Team. Both teams won one game each with Silver rallying for a 9-5 win in Game 1 and Green prevailing 10-0 in Game 2. Larsen led off for the Green Team and hit 1-for-3 with a double, three RBIs, a stolen base and a run scored. It was so, so fun.

Aquinas Catholic sophomore Dayne Jakub wasn't fazed by the stage in his first appearance at the NSAA Class C Boys State Golf Championship at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island, sitting in a medal position after day one on May 28. On Thursday, Jakub struggled on the back nine and finished the tournament in a tie for 28th. "I thought he did really well on (May 28).

COLUMBUS — Clarkson/Leigh freshman Trevor Hoffman and junior Parker Sayers debuted at the NSAA Class D Boys State Golf Championship on May 28-29 at Quail Run Golf Course. Hoffman bounced back from a tough day one to tie for 55th, shooting a 186 over the two days. Sayers battled through some day-two struggles carding a 188 for a tie of 62nd. "They did pretty well. Very tough course," Clarkson/Leigh head coach Connor Blum said.
Lakeview Seniors enter win column for first time in young season

DAVID CITY — Platte Center Post 283 Bank of the Valley Lakeview Seniors broke out offensively for the first time this season in Sunday's road contest at David City. Lakeview, who opened the season with a pair of 9-1 defeats, plated 14 runs on 15 hits from nine different hitters as it fended off David City for a 14-9 win. "We needed to get on the right side of things there," Seniors head coach Mike Sloup said.

David City Post 125 Seniors began the new Legion season on Sunday hosting the Lakeview Seniors. Post 125 fell behind 9-0 after two innings, but chipped away at the deficit and managed to push the game to the full seven innings in a 14-9 defeat. "We got off to a slow start and they hit the ball really well the first inning. We did well as far as staying into the game and not putting our hands down in the stand," Post 125 head coach Steve Rerucha said.

Scotus Central Catholic junior Brayden Fleming entered Thursday's final round of the NSAA Class C Boys State Golf Championship at Jackrabbit Run Golf Course in Grand Island in a medal position. Fleming, who began the day in a tie for 13th, battled back from a tough front nine with an improved back nine. However, the junior shot an 80 as he finished two shots back of a medal in a tie for 24th with a two-day score of 156. "After a pretty rocky start, he (Fleming) settled in pretty nicely.

LINCOLN — For the first time in four years, Columbus High girls tennis brought home a state medal at the NSAA Class A Girls State Tennis Championships at the Woods Tennis Center. The Discoverers No. 2 doubles team of seniors Alyn Estrada-Morales and Maria Oliva-Rumbaut defeated their first two opponents Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals and clinch a state medal. Columbus High senior Keaton Barnes completed the first round of the NSAA Class A Boys State Golf Championship at Kearney Country Club in contention for the state title. Barnes shot an even-par 71, one of seven players in the field to shoot even or under par, to put him in a tie for fifth. Lincoln East's Max Moss is the clubhouse leader at 3-under. The senior parred the entire front nine and sank back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. He bogeyed just two holes. "It was very businesslike.
