Chelsea coach Sonia Bompastor has delivered a blow to fans hoping to see Sam Kerr back in action, revealing the Matildas star is still "a few weeks" away from being ready. Jahrome Hughes has been sent for scans on a suspected broken hand in a staggering fallout to the Nathan Cleary incident on Thursday night. Cleary was knocked out just seven minutes into the grand final rematch between the Panthers and Storm in Melbourne, and didn't take any further part in the contest. Cleary collided with Hughes in a bizarre incident in which the Panthers halfback jumped in an apparent attempt to avoid a collision.

It was only Round 1, but the Tigers' 13.4 (82) to 9.15 (69) win will go down as one of the upsets of the season. With three first-round draftees making their AFL debuts, Richmond rallied from 41 points down in the second quarter to win in front of 80,009 fans at the MCG.

Xander McGuire impressed AFL fans as he made his debut on Channel 7 on Friday night during Hawthorn's win over Sydney. The son of former Collingwood boss Eddie McGuire, Xander has landed a role on Channel 7 in 2025 and will work during live game broadcasts and across the network's panel shows. The 22-year-old worked as a reporter at Channel 9 for three years before making the switch to Seven this year, and he'll also work as a co-host on 'The Round So Far' program on the AFL website in 2025.

Ariarne Titmus has joined the outpouring of messages congratulating Brianna Throssell after the swimming gold medallist announced her retirement from the sport on Sunday. Taking to social media, Throssell revealed she's retired from competitive swimming effective immediately, after revealing at last year's Paris Games that she wouldn't continue to the next Olympics.
